Family Reunion in Morocco, August, 2000
Sisters Giselle(Sue) Dailey and Yvonne Legroux met in their childhood home of Sidi Yahya in Morocco. Yvonne brought her three children and their families. Giselle brought her daughter and son-in law. It was an experience for all.
People came from California, Indiana, Paris, Manosque and Israel to spend a few weeks at the beach north of Rabat. A funky, disco-era hotel served as base for days of reminiscing, eating and partying.
A grand "diffa" surprise was a definite highlight. Bands of musicians, dancers, dignitaries, and amazing volumes of food filled five hours in a big, carpeted tent. Yvonne's generosity stunned us all.
Stories of days and nights in Morocco fifty, sixty years ago fueled memories and emotions. Visits with friends still living there added another dimension to the stay.
Couscous, b'stilla, Ricard, "haricots de mer", cards and cross-dressing provided a large portion of the entertainment at night. Days were spent basking on the beach and shopping in the "souk"(market). I don't think anyone thought about work.
A fine vacation and the chance of a lifetime for us. Perhaps, to be repeated in the not too distant future?
